It has always been following him, and now it is in the Upper World with him. Tempted by it, he uses it to stop his best friend Julia from moving away, unaware of the dangers he has just surfaced by using the wand. Soon things start getting really strange in the Upper World, and the three kids Eric, Neal, and Julia immediately seek the help of their Droon friends, Princess Keeah and Max, the spider. They soon realize though that Droon is also in chaos, after a big earthquake, bunches of marmots have invaded the castle. Seeking help, they go to a witch in the woods who tells them that Lord Sparr and his disgusting snake, who are the cause of the earthquakes, are in the land of Goll, getting stronger each day, and searching for a powerful weapon to bring the final blow on Droon. Even worse, it seems Galen, the powerful wizard, has been captured by them. The kids soon learn that the only hope for Droon might lie on Ice Hills, where the three Knights of Silversnow rest, waiting for the day they will be needed to save Droon. So, suddenly summer turns into winter as the kids have another whole new adventure in Droon. A wonderful book for kids just starting to read. Search for the Dragon Ship (Secrets Of Droon #18) ReviewThis was a fun book, and if I had read it before reading King Fortis the Brave I might have given it five stars. But because I read it after finishing King Fortis, which was superior in many ways, the best I could do was four.
Still, that's not to say that this book does not have a lot going for it, and that Abbott isn't a very good writer. If you're looking for a young adult fantasy novel and you haven't read King Fortis yet, try that first. The Isle of Mists (Secrets of Droon, 22) ReviewLord Sparr has finally done it. He finally collected the Three Powers of Droon, the Coiled Viper, the Red Eye of Dawn, and the Golden Wasp. Droon could not be in a worse situation. With the Three Powers, Lord Sparr is headed toward the Isle of Mists, a strange eerie island where he is trying to do a magic trick which will spell doom for all of Droon. Not to mention the fact that Sparr's evil stepfather Emperor Ko, who disappeared on the Isle of Mists, could still be alive and well on this island. This spells big trouble for Eric and the gang. Can they somehow outmuster Lord Sparr and save Droon?
This was one of my favorites in the series. Definitely quite entertaining with a few revelations. I definitely recommend parent to get their young children into this series. I loved this new Droon book. It has a lot of excitment like all Droon books have. Can't wait for 14! Comes out in January 2002!The Secrets of Droon #13: The Mask of Maliban OverviewMove over, Lord Sparr-there's a new bad guy in town. Prince Maliban is the creepy ruler of the Turtle City. And Maliban's mysterious mask maker, Hob is crafting an awesome new mask. The mask is very cool but very powerful. So Eric, Neal, and Julie have to make sure the mask doesn't fall into the wrong hands otherwise, it could mean serious trouble for Droon.

While my son and I are avid consumers of serial chapter books, the Secrets of Droon remains our favorite. Fortunately, number 9, which introduces a huge plot twist, did not disappoint. For the first eight installments, the bold young adventurers from the upper world -- Eric, Julie, and Neal -- have teamed with the Junior Wizard, Princess Keeah of Droon, to reign in the evil aspirations of the dastardly Lord Sparr. In The Tower of the Elf King, however, Lord Sparr is notably absent, and our young friends confront a new, surprisingly complicated foe, Gryndl. In addition to Gryndl, plus some old friends (particularly Kahn, King of the Purple Lumpies -- long my son's favorite), our friends meet The Maker, whose inventions feature prominently in the story line. Experienced Droon readers will be pleased to learn more of the illusive, shape-shifting Queen Relna, at the same time remaining wary of Sparr's eventual return. Secrets of Droon Box Set ReviewTony Abbott's Droon series engages kids far more than adults. To an adult the simplified, rather wooden language and characters can seem bland and boring. But events move quickly, odd characters proliferate, and a child is introduced to a land with its own geography, history, and rules. This is a great way to introduce an early reader to the pleasures of fantasy. The books increase in length and (slightly) in complexity, rewarding the child who is growing in proficiency. Droon can be a compelling first chapter book series-- my son has read each of 18 or so books at least three times. One note-- the books are easily appropriate for children younger than nine. Journey to the Volcano Palace (Secrets of Droon #2) ReviewI really liked the book. Eric, Julie, and Neal are going on a journey to the core of the volcano to find the jewel that Spar has stolen. Spar stole the jewel which is a glove with a diamond on it from the King. On their journey the three kids meet wizards, monsters and lumpies. The part when the lumpies attacked the fire monsters was the funniest part of the book. If you want to find out if the kids made it or not, read the book. I thought the book was going to be boring, but I ended up really enjoying the book and finished it really fast.Journey to the Volcano Palace (Secrets of Droon #2) OverviewEric, Julie, and Neal have a problem. The nasty Lord Sparr has stolen a magic jewel from their friend Princess Keeah. The princessreally needs their help. The good news is the jewel is in Lord Sparr's secret palace. The Magic Escapes (Secrets of Droon, Special Edition, Book 1) ReviewIt isn't exactly like the other Droon books. Most of them are about going into another world, but this book is about going into the past of Earth.
My favorite part was when a goblin was asking a boy what the magic words were. The boy said that his mommy taught him that: "Please" and "Thank you"!
If you liked the other Droon books, than this special edition is about the same characters. I think that you'll really like it!
