Dream Thief (Secrets of Droon, 17) ReviewI like Dream Theif because it is wild, magical, and fun. It also has grate magical words in it. I would never not like Dream Theif. I never could say that there was a part I didn't like. My favorite part personly was when Neal said that once he woke up with a penut butter sandwich. The three friends, Eric, Julie and Neal are on their 12th adventure in Droon, seeking Demether, the underwater queen of the ocean. She has a red jewel she stole from Lord Spar, called the red eye of dawn. This jewel has a spirit in it which is making her yellow. This book has inspired me, and I would think many other people, to make up their own stories, to think about their own adventures in other worlds. I did not think this book was the best book I had ever read, because it really did not have that much action.Under the Serpent Sea (Secrets of Droon, 12) OverviewA hidden door. A magical Staircase. Discover the World of Droon! The sea witch Demither is stirring up a storm in Droon. Keeah has to stop her! This mission could make or break Keeah's wizard training. And Eric, Neal and Julie think they can help their friend. But many surprises await them in Demither's underwater world-and many secrets will be revealed.

It just so happens that Hobs is crafting a new mask for Prince Maliban and the mask will give Maliban power over all of Droon. It definitely sounds like something Lord Sparr might do to take over Droon. And...doesn't it seem weird that Lord Sparr has disappeared?? Could he have secret connections to Prince Maliban or worse is he Prince Maliban himself?? Read this 13th Droon book to find out!!!
I loved this new Droon book. It has a lot of excitment like all Droon books have. Can't wait for 14! Comes out in January 2002!The Secrets of Droon #13: The Mask of Maliban OverviewMove over, Lord Sparr-there's a new bad guy in town. Prince Maliban is the creepy ruler of the Turtle City. And Maliban's mysterious mask maker, Hob is crafting an awesome new mask. The mask is very cool but very powerful. So Eric, Neal, and Julie have to make sure the mask doesn't fall into the wrong hands otherwise, it could mean serious trouble for Droon.

Tower of the Elf King (Secrets of Droon, 9) ReviewHappiness and joy descended upon our household when the most recent Droon installment arrived. While my son and I are avid consumers of serial chapter books, the Secrets of Droon remains our favorite. Fortunately, number 9, which introduces a huge plot twist, did not disappoint. For the first eight installments, the bold young adventurers from the upper world -- Eric, Julie, and Neal -- have teamed with the Junior Wizard, Princess Keeah of Droon, to reign in the evil aspirations of the dastardly Lord Sparr. In The Tower of the Elf King, however, Lord Sparr is notably absent, and our young friends confront a new, surprisingly complicated foe, Gryndl. In addition to Gryndl, plus some old friends (particularly Kahn, King of the Purple Lumpies -- long my son's favorite), our friends meet The Maker, whose inventions feature prominently in the story line. Experienced Droon readers will be pleased to learn more of the illusive, shape-shifting Queen Relna, at the same time remaining wary of Sparr's eventual return. Once again, it's refreshing that the author does not weigh down the narrative rehashing prior adventures, but, for this reason, it's probably best to begin with the first book in the series. Quest for the Queen (Secrets of Droon #10) ReviewThe tenth installment in the Secrets of Droon series was a huge hit it my home. Granted, my son (now approaching five) loved each of the preceding nine Droon books and remains intolerant of my inability to force Tony Abbott, the author, to write and publish with greater frequency. My guess, however, is that The Quest for the Queen will satisfy both new readers and faithful followers of Eric, Julie, and Neal, as they team with Princess Keeah to combat evil in the magical world of Droon. Children familiar with the earlier books will perch on the edge of their seats (or your lap) awaiting the fate of the shape-shifting Queen Relna (Princess Keeah's mother, the wife of the Viking King Zello), and they won't be disappointed. New readers will be at less of a disadvantage here because Droon's predominant villian -- Lord Sparr -- remains in hiding (although there is a cameo of his nemisis, Gaelen, the grand wizard of Droon) -- nonetheless, the series works best if you begin with The Magic Staircase and meet the colorful characters in order as this grand, dense saga evolves. Consistent with most Droon adventures, this book crackles with magic (even in the forest where magic has been banned), adventure (a pilka chariot race -- oh my!), and teamwork (with both girls (Keeah and Julie) and boys (Eric and Neal) chipping in and sharing the glory). Again, I applaud Tony Abbott for doing what only the best children's authors can -- making reading (and listening) fun!Quest for the Queen (Secrets of Droon #10) OverviewFOR USE IN SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES ONLY. Best friends stumble upon the magical world of Droon, that is filled with wizards and sorcerers, pillow-shaped folks, and strange landscapes like invisible cities. Secrets of Droon Box Set ReviewTony Abbott's Droon series engages kids far more than adults. To an adult the simplified, rather wooden language and characters can seem bland and boring. But events move quickly, odd characters proliferate, and a child is introduced to a land with its own geography, history, and rules. This is a great way to introduce an early reader to the pleasures of fantasy. The books increase in length and (slightly) in complexity, rewarding the child who is growing in proficiency. Droon can be a compelling first chapter book series-- my son has read each of 18 or so books at least three times. One note-- the books are easily appropriate for children younger than nine.
