The writer does a good job it outlining the story, describing the time and feeling of Scotland and yet, solving the mystery takes on unexpected turns.Ghost Walk (Rose Mcquinn Mystery) (Rose McQuinn Mysteries) OverviewRose McQuinn, daughter of one of Scotland?s most successful detectives, Chief Inspector Jeremy Faro, followed her heart and married the man of her childhood dreams, Danny McQuinn. However, Danny?s work in Arizona with Pinkerton?s Detective Agency exposed him to many dangerous enemies, and one day he disappeared from Rose?s life altogether. Believing him to be dead and grieving the loss of both her husband and baby son, Rose returned to Scotland in order to start a new life. It is June, 1897 and three years have passed since that tragic period in Rose's life. She has now fulfilled her ambition of becoming a 'Lady Investigator, Discretion Guaranteed' and is about to marry her long-term lover, Detective Inspector Jack Macmerry of the Edinburgh Police. The Hangman's Row Enquiry (Ivy Beasley) ReviewFor years cantankerous spinster Ivy Beasley ruled the English village of Round Ringford with a nurturing iron first. The townsfolk respected her, but did not care about her. When her cousin Deirdre asks her to move near her, Ivy agrees and relocates in the assisted living community Springfields in Barrington.
Still filed with vinegar and energy, Ivy needs something to occupy her time. She thinks she may have found just the thing when she meets Augustus "Gus" Halfhide at church. He has recently moved here and seeks something to excite his time too. They along with Deirdre open up an investigative agency. Their first case they choose as it interests them involves the death of a woman in one of the cottages on Hangman's Row. The cottage belongs to Theodore Russell whose ancestors once owned most of the village, but he became a recluse who used an agent Miss Bailey to conduct his affairs.
Ann Purser provides a delightful spin-off from her Lois Meade mysteries starring former series support player the silver haired crabby Ivy, her cousin, and their new friend. Fans will enjoy the dynamic trio as they investigate the murder of Gus' neighbor with zest and vim as they display energy that a person half their age will admire. With Gus adding enigmatic denouements, Deirdre a bit of fear, and Ivy vinegar of course, fans of the Meade English cozies will want to read this senior citizen murderer investigation.

Shrouds of Holly (A Special Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery) ReviewCecily Sinclair Baxter returns in Shrouds of Holly to solve another murder. Her previous Pennyfoot Hotel Mysteries are No Clue at the Inn and Slay Bells.
It's Christmas and Cecily and her employees are decorating the Pennyfoot ballroom for a festive Christmas reception. With a staff shortage (primarily due to illness) Baxter, Cecily's husband, has reluctantly accompanied Samuel, the stable manager, to collect fresh boughs of holly to complete the decorations.
While Mrs. Chubb, the Pennyfoot housekeeper, was out collecting eggs, the sleigh returned with a dead body (Gavin Hargrove) but minus Baxter and Samuel.
Samuel turns up with a head injury and his only memory is of bending over Baxter's body. Is Baxter badly injured or is he dead? The only thing known for sure is that he has disappeared.
With Baxter missing, the stable manager injured and a dead body outside her establishment, Cecily is determined to investigate. It's important to find the murderer but it's more important to find her husband.
The deceased Gavin Hargrove seems to have had some enemies. He owed money to a London syndicate for gambling debts. His fiancée doesn't seem very upset over his death. What's that about? And his brother is dependent on Gavin's goodwill. With Gavin dead, he inherits his father's wealth.
It's going to be a difficult task to find the murderer since the police think they know who killed Gavin but Cecily is not giving up. Her husband's life may depend on it.
Kingsbury's historical Christmas novels are set in England and are delightful cozy mysteries. I love the laid back feel of the books. They are satisfying plots that keep you turning the page.

The Cat Who Robbed a Bank ReviewThe Cat Who... books are the only mystery series I read. I'm really not a mystery fan, so I probably judge them differently than someone would who cares a lot about the quality of the mystery---to me, that is a secondary or less concern! I really enjoyed this entry into the series. It's like visiting friends you haven't spent time with in a year or so to read each new Cat Who book. Several things stood out for me in the entry. I felt like I really got to know Qwill better, as he got to know himself and his past better. I got the feeling his relationship with Polly is deepening, and I love reading about that, as unlike some Cat Who fans, I really like Polly! As always, there were many great food descriptions, always a highlight of these books for me! And the mystery itself was well done, although the outcome wasn't too much of a surprise. Another enjoyable thing about this book---more focus on the cats! It seemed like they came into the story more than in some recent entries into the series, and Koko had more of his mystical talents showing! I know there are those who will say this doesn't live up to the early cat books, and they are probably right, but for me, it's enough that I can read more about the little world of Pickax, and feel relaxed and happy spending some time there!The Cat Who Robbed a Bank Overview

Crawlspace: A Home Repair Is Homicide Mystery (Home Repair Is Homicide Mysteries) ReviewI am so disappointed in the direction the "Home Repair is Homicide" series has gone. This has always been a quirky and complex series, not what I would really classify as a cozy, but with the last couple of books, I feel like Sarah Graves wants to write a certain kind of stand alone thriller, yet can't let go of Jake and Ellie. And the totally weak and unnecessary subplot involving death threats to Jake- please- what a waste of time! As I mentioned in my review of her last book, "A Face in the Window," I read this series because I love the tidbits about small town Maine life, the adventures Jake has trying to renovate her house, and the relationships between Jake, Ellie and their respective families. In this book, I guess there is a decent storyline, but I feel like tiny bits of the characters are thrown in so she can call it part of the series.
