Dog House: A Love Story ReviewI was looking forward to reading this book because of the reviews.
Boy, was I disappointed. Yes, she did have one dog for I think 13 years but after that....She got one dog, which she wasn't keen on, then got another one which she thought would better the personality of the first. Since that didn't work, she gave away dog #1 because he wasn't nice to dog #2, then she decided to get another dog, enter dog #3. Dog #2 didn't get along with dog #3, yeah, you guessed it, she gave away dog #2. This was where I quit reading. I can't believe people thought this book was funny and entertaining. Maybe that happened in the last quarter of the book but I wasn't giving the author anymore of my time.
This is the first time the Amazon reviews have let me down.Dog House: A Love Story OverviewDog House wasn't supposed to be a book about love. It was supposed to be a hugely funny account of the dogs in Carol Prisant's life. And not just the dogs, but that first bird she found at Woolworth's, the monkey that fell in love with her husband's leg, the thankless tiny turtle, and the goldfish her pet- challenged mother flushed down the toilet. Somehow though, this straightforward telling got a little blindsided by things like making marriage work and home- owning and children and a profession and her dear, supportive husband, Millard. Which is why the goldfish will just have to wait for the sequel. This book is still about cold noses, warm bellies, four on the floor, and a snuggler or two. Your basic fur family. It's also about the love of a mother for her son, a wife for her husband, a husband for some dogs, and the love it takes to make a haunted house a home. Your basic family furnisgings. Throw in a lot of antiques, a couple triumphs over adversity, and a more-than-seems-fair share of heartbreaking loss and you have Dog House--the warm, absorbing, and humorous tale of dogs and marriage, love and marriage and life.

Kopek the Destroyer ReviewI accepted this book for review during my moratorium on accepting books for review for one reason: the wolfy puppy. You see, once upon a time I had a wolfy puppy of my own. Her name was Dusty, and she was half German Shepherd, half Timber Wolf, and all stupid. And a lot of the pictures of Kopek included in this book could have been my very own dog, which made me very happy and nostalgic. The tone of this book is very conversational (even if he does slip into tangents a bit too often), and I really liked reading about Kopek's adventures. If you like dogs, especially chewy, mischievous ones, I think you'll like this too. It's a short, light read, and just the thing to put a smile on your face.Kopek the Destroyer OverviewPhil and Ronnie started with two rabbits. Then along came Tim, a grouchy 11-year-old Border collie they adopted from the Blue Cross. Next, they acquired another rabbit, a guinea pig, yet another rabbit, and then a cat.

Now whilst Phil has had dogs all his life, they were in the main, older rescue dogs and Ronnie's experience was limited to Tim, who they only had for 4 years. Living with Tim introduced Ronnie to the joys of canine ownership, so when he went to the great field in the sky, it was a no-brainer to look for another dog. However, they decided to get a puppy. A puppy was a new experience for both of them, and an experience it certainly was. There were plenty of incidents to cope with, as their new puppy grew up, many of which contributed to the slow deterioration of their newly renovated home.

Getting Out: Excerpts From A Cat's Diary ReviewA wonderfully written book with many different ways a cat can try to escape his captured life. a deep in to the mind of a cat book, which focuses in to the life of a beautiful tabby.Getting Out: Excerpts From A Cat's Diary OverviewGetting Out - Excerpts from a Cat's Diary is the first book in a trilogy of at least four books (according to the author). Translated from the original Cat by John Woodcock. It is a humorous 'diary' where 'Bridget Jones' meets 'The Great Escape' head on. The escapee is a domestic cat who believes that he is a great diarist and describes, in his own words, his almost daily escape attempts. Over 400, yes four hundred pages of laughter!

There's a Dog in the House: A Practical Guide to Creating Today's Dog Friendly Home ReviewThis is the go-to book for any question you might have about creating an environment in (and around) your home that offers both you and your dog a high quality of "shared species" life. Even if you don't think you need it, if you truly love your dog, you do!
Nancy Chwiecko is a dog lover with expertise in designing environmentally friendly spaces. She has combined these two passions with comprehensive research for a PhD (she is after all an Associate Professor of Interior Design in the School of Design at Rochester Institute of Technology) and teamed up with Amy Fernandez, past president of Dog Writer's Association of America to produce a much-needed, unique resource for real dog lovers. From safe, easy-to-clean floor materials to considerations for the senior dog's needs, from the kitchen to the bathroom, every aspect of your home's interior design --whether it be placement of windows or what kind of hinges are best on outdoor doors-- is presented from the dog's point of view, incorporating the dog's unique sensory abilities, biology, instincts and behavior. This book is a treasured resource for any dog lover or design professional and will be an eye opener as well into the life of your dog, as your dog experiences it!
----Annie Brody, Founder & President, Camp Unleashed (CampUnleashed.com)There's a Dog in the House: A Practical Guide to Creating Today's Dog Friendly Home OverviewThere's a Dog in the House:A Practical Guide for Creating Today's Dog-Friendly HomeThis unique resource addresses the dynamic and too often neglected relationship between dogs and home design. Today dogs of every shape and size live in our homes, an arrangement that was considered extraordinary just 50 years ago. Yet, prior to this book, the field of home design had not adequately responded to this significant new design challenge. From a cultural standpoint, treating your dog like a member of the family has become emblematic of enlightened, compassionate ownership. They sit on our couches, sleep on our beds, use our bathtubs, and even occasionally dine at our tables. They also shed, track in mud, and show no interest in the aesthetic or hygienic aspects of our homes. This has unfortunately become a major cause of disruption in the loving dog/human bond. There's a Dog in the House provides solid practical advice for what many owners attempt to improvise-home design solutions that make it far easier to live harmoniously with a well-behaved, contented dog.It also includes a chapter by chapter resource guide to help dog owner's find the right products and information for creating a truly dog-friendly home.An invaluable and comprehensive volume created by two dog lovers, one an experienced design professional, the other a recognized dog expert, There's a Dog in the House is destined to become a cherished addition to the libraries of home owners and designers. (book includes over 150 full color images)

The Good Guy ReviewFirst off, there is nothing supernatural in this book. That deserves to said up front, as some people prefer Koontz when he is writing in a different vein.
This was one of the most riveting suspense novels I've read lately. The basic dilemna? A guy walks into a bar and is mistaken for a hired killer. He tries to pay off the REAL killer and, for a time, it seems as if this will work. But the killer catches on and the chase is on, as "the good guy" tries to save a beautiful woman from death.
To add to the intrigue, she has no idea why anyone would want her killed. Neither does he, of course. So they have to keep running from a guy who seems to be almost psychic, a man with connections that run deeper than could ever be expected.
I loved the way each character practically jumped off the page, the interaction between them and more. The subtle details Koontz adds are what separates him from other, less skilled writers. His writing is also tight, tense and neither stereotypical or too dense. Take this one with you this summer or have it on hand for times when you want a good read. You won't be disappointed!

Bissell Little Green ProHeat Turbo Carpet Cleaner, 1425B ReviewI heavily researched before buying this model. I was attracted by the heater and turbo brush, and I read many positive reviews. It works great on carpet cleaning, however, within three uses the trigger 'jammed up.' When I took it to a Bissell repair shop (a very reputable vacumn repair shop) I was told that the cleaner burns onto the heater each time it's used, causing it to stop spraying. He recommended that it be flushed through with hot water after each use and stored without the fill/empty canisters. Otherwise, it would continue to break. He also said that the heater only adds about 10 degrees so it's a minimal benefit. He strongly encouraged me to return the model for a basic unit (1400) which is ... cheaper. He repairs all brands and encouraged me to purchase the Hoover SteamVac Jr. instead. He rairly encounters problems with their model, but sees many Bissells.
I purchased one and have used it once. I really love it. It works as well as the Bissell (both clean extremely well) but is easier to operate. I no longer have to 'flush' the system each time I use it (who has time for that?). With two little ones, purchasing a portable steam cleaner is a must; Bissell and Hoover make excellent choices (but stay away from the heater units)
I hope this is helpful.Bissell Little Green ProHeat Turbo Carpet Cleaner, 1425B OverviewThis Bissell 14251 Little Green ProHeat Spot Cleaner gives you thorough deep cleaning convenience for tasks large and small. Strong spray and suction clean and help dry in one step. Long power cord and compact design make cleaning hard-to-reach areas easy. Stores ready-to-use.

Bissell Spotlifter Powerbrush Handheld Deep Cleaner, 1716B ReviewWe struggled between buying this unit and the comperable Dirt Devil offering, when we saw them at the local discount stores. Liking the stiffer dual-rotating beater-bar style brushes on the Bissell better than the much softer brushes on the spinning disk the Dirt Devil had, we settled on the Bissell. At the store, the only negative factor for the Bissell appeared to be it's one-year warranty, versus the two-years offered with the Dirt Devil.
We did not consider a cordless model, presuming they would be less powerful. We also did not consider a model without scrub brushes.
I used our new Bissell briefly last night on a couple of recent pet stains, and it did a good job. Today, I used it on all the rest of the pet stains on our light living room carpet, many of which were old. Almost all of them lifted well.
The Bissell clean tank will hold a full 8 oz. (3-4 oz. cleaning product and 4 oz. water), compared to the Dirt Devil that only holds a total of 6 oz. It does a decent job of suctioning up liquid. Many with the Dirt Devil seem to complain that it's suction is inadequate, and we did test its suction at the store and agree that it is weak.
The manual doesn't document the total clean tank size, how many ounces the "Formula" fill line is at, or how many the "Water" fill line is at, but I measured them. This way I know the proper dilution, if I choose to mix some of the cleaning product into a regular spray bottle for pretreating convenience, without hauling the heavier unit around. (They suggest leaving the pretreat on for 3-5 minutes.)
Note that once you've filled the clean tank, if you have a lot left over you do not have to empty it. You can save it for next time. (The disadvantage to doing this is that you would no longer have warm water to help you clean better.)
The 20' cord was more than adequate for us to get to the areas we needed to clean. Others complain that the Dirt Devil's cord is too big, but I'm not sure if that means diameter or length. The cord on the Bissell flows nicely. It isn't stiff and doesn't stay too curled up to be able to be used easily. It even had a convenient velcro strap that stays attached, to help you manage the cord for storage.
The unit is really easy to fill, operate and clean. Both the clean tank and the dirty tank detach and reattach very easily. Even the beater brush cartridge removes easily for cleaning. It only took me a few minutes to have it ready for storage again. Dirt Devil users complain that reattaching a tank is not always easy.
This is not a full size steam cleaner and I don't think it's fair to expect it to behave like one. It's great for the purpose it's designed for. Be sure to vacuum your capet before using it, if you haven't done so recently. This will minimize the amount of hair etc. to clean out of the brushes when you are finished using the Bissell. I did not do this, and it still wasn't bad to clean out the brushes.
The unit has a solid and durable feel to it. Dirt Devil users seem to think that unit is flimsey and has an awkward manual solution/water sprayer.
I think the product works well and would recommend it over the Dirt Devil. I am happy with itBissell Spotlifter Powerbrush Handheld Deep Cleaner, 1716B OverviewBissell Spotlifter Powerbrush Handheld Deep Cleaner - the quickest way to clean spots and spills

Bissell SpotLifter 2X Portable Deep Carpet Cleaner, 1719 ReviewI bought the Bissell SpotLifter 2X to replace an older Bissell model that finally wore out after 5 years. We have 3 indoor cats that frequently soil our rugs and carpeting, so a quick and easy carpet cleaner is a must. The old version worked well, but this model works even better.
The suction is much improved, and this model cleans our rugs and carpet much better than its previous version. Battery life is excellent -- we have used this cleaner several times over the past few weeks and still have yet to recharge the battery (the instructions recommend recharging only after the battery runs down to maximize battery life). The cleaning solution is readily available at places like Target and inexpensive. It is easy to empty the collection chamber after cleaning.
If you want a simple, affordable, rechargeable, cordless spot carpet cleaner, this is the one to buy. If the SpotLifter 2X lasts even half as long as the one it replaces it will have been a very good investment. I would not hesitate to buy it again.Bissell SpotLifter 2X Portable Deep Carpet Cleaner, 1719 OverviewThe Bissell SpotLifter 2X handheld deep cleaner is the easiest way to clean spots and spills when they happen. It is cordless, rechargeable, and stores ready to use so it's ready to quickly clean up spots and spills. With powerful spray and suction the SpotLifter 2X lifts and removes tough spots and stains when they happen. It is great for pet stains because it sprays, lifts and removes tough pet stain and eliminates pet odors. With a seven inch cleaning path, this machine runs for an average of 14-15 minutes before needing to be recharged. This machine also comes with a trial size of compact formula.
