The Revenant: A Horror in Dodsville ReviewI am a very picky reader. When I bought physical books I only bought from authors I knew I would enjoy. I have a very short list...Stephen King, John Saul, Bentley Little and Scott Nicholson. The problem is most book stores carry very few horror novels. I purchased my Kindle in July, 2010. I love my Kindle!! This wonderful piece of technology gives me the ability to instantly find and read a new book. The problem...I had already read everything by my favorite authors, and nothing new was coming for a few months. I purchased "The Revenant". I really didn't have any expectations on the book. I was pleasantly surprised. This was a very good read, I really enjoyed the story. I of course read the first chapter of the new book, and immediately went searching for it. That is when I discovered that this was Brian L. Blank's first book. This disappointed me as I really want to read more. While I was searching, for "The Haunting of Stephen" I started reading the reviews on this book. I am disappointed at some of the reviews that say other good reviews are fake. This is a good book, while the book may not be perfect, or based on reality. Who cares? This is a fiction book, as such, with your imagination it can take you anywhere. I personally do not read books for reality, I read to get away from reality. Any book is what you make it. So for those of you that are skeptical in reading, take a chance! This book is really good; I enjoyed it very much and will read any new ones that Mr. Blank writes. Just grab your Kindle turn out the lights, and open up your imagination, you will enjoy. Mr. Blank, please continue writing! Remember the critics didn't like Stephen King either...I bet he is laughing all the way to the bank!! In time you will be too!!The Revenant: A Horror in Dodsville OverviewAfter his parents' sudden death in a freak car accident, eleven-year-old Stephen O'Neil reluctantly leaves behind his hometown and his best friend Reed Price. Now, thirteen years later, he solemnly returns to Dodsville to attend Reed's funeral. He drowned, Stephen soon learns, under suspicious circumstances. With shadowy memories haunting him, Stephen investigates the mystery behind Reed's death. Quickly becoming more anxious about what actually had happened, he joins forces with Reed's sisters, Julie and Tabitha, along with Julie's boyfriend Sly and Reed's ex-girlfriend Melissa. Enter an eccentric, rich divorcee, who claims to have seen a mysterious message concerning Stephen and Reed's childhood club written in the fog of her bathroom mirror. After learning that Stephen is staying in town, she asks him to spend a week in her mansion to investigate. He decides to accept her offer, hoping to exorcise the demons of his own past. At first, Stephen and his friends find themselves enjoying the luxuries of the mansion, just what they needed to jumpstart their lives after Reed's funeral. Their attempt at mindless frivolities, however, quickly turns to horror, as they hear whispers. Doors mysteriously lock behind them, and soon their very lives are in peril. The horror quickly permeates throughout Dodsville. There is a murder; then more and more people mysteriously disappear. Unfortunately, Pierce, a detective who is trying to make a name for himself, suspects Stephen to be behind it all. In order to clear himself, Stephen, along with the aide of his new friends, take matters into their own hands. Their investigation leads them from the mansion, to the cemetery, and finally to a reputed haunted house, where Stephen is lead on a terrifying journey dredged up from the nightmares of his childhood, a journey he had desperately hoped he would never have to make.
