The Redemption Factory ReviewI just finished rereading this book and am in awe of the dark tone to the book. It is very rare that you can talk about a literal bloodbath in a novel, but this book is filled with brutal scenes such as the one I referenced. I returned to this book after completing the Karl Kane series and can confidently say that Sam Millar writes great stand alone novels as well as terrific series. Millar shows a great knack of using imagery to set the mood in this book. If I had to "marry" two authors that would produce this type of noir it would be Ken Bruen + Greg Iles. This book uses language as a medium to paint a fantastic setting filled with some of the most unique characters I have met in some time. Millar uses this language to set the scenes, but he also uses sparse language to keep the pace moving nicely. Few authors can accomplish that task, but Millar seems to do it with ease. Check out my reviews of Bloodstorm and The Dark Place and you will see that although this was a very good book, Millar is getting better and better as he publishes more books. Read this book as an introduction, then run, don't walk, to order the Karl Kane series. As for me, I will be ordering his other early novels, locking myself in a dark room and enjoying the upcoming dark, bleak months with some dark, bleak books.The Redemption Factory Overview
